On December 7, 2009, Lucinda_CA, a graduate student attending school in Glasgow, left a comment on the journal of phenomenology, a graduate student attending school in New York City. After much reciprocal stalking, a long chat session ensued, the first of many.
On December 12, 2009, Lucinda_CA, having returned from a night of post-semester revelry with her classmates, initiated a Skype video chat session with phenomenology. Oddly, Skype activated his speakers (which he had explicitly turned off) once the video chat was accepted, such that an entire library reading room got to hear his caller's laughter before he was able to mute the sound.
It was during that Skype chat session that she informed him of the ticket to New York she had purchased for winter break.
On December 30, 2009, many subsequent chat sessions later, phenomenology met Lucinda_CA as she arrived at the airport. Bags were dropped at a friends house, a shopping trip ensued, followed by a feeding of kittehs (for phenomenology was cat-sitting at the time).
An encounter with a singing house guest was the inspiration for dancing, then kissing...

They never did make it out to see the ball drop on New Year's Eve.
